Psychotherapy and psychological assessment · Los Gatos, CA

Life transitions are hard. Even the good ones.

A new job. A relationship beginning or ending. A child. Early retirement. When the situation changes, the skills and habits that got you this far can't always carry you through. That's where I can help.

By phone or video. You tell me what's going on, ask your questions, and leave with a clear sense of what working together would look like.

KairosHere and now is where you can make moves toward the things that really matter. Kairos is the word for this opportune moment.

Two ways to start, one way of working

Therapy for adults · Assessment from age 6

THERAPYNew moves ASSESSMENTA clear picture WHERE THEYOVERLAP Therapeuticassessment

Therapy

Weekly sessions, grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). We work with the patterns and try new responses in your real life. In person in Los Gatos, or by video anywhere in California.

How therapy works

Where they overlap

A thorough look at personality, executive functioning and core capacities that deepens the therapy and speeds up the growth. Never necessary, and almost always helpful.

Psychological assessment

Testing built around your question. A plain-language report, usually within a week of testing, and a session to put it to use.

How assessment works

How assessment works

Six steps, from your question to follow-up

Your question. We meet. You tell me what is happening, and we agree on the question the testing has to answer.

Therapy

A first full session to get clear on what you're working toward, then weekly sessions. Each one starts from the concerns you bring that week. We work out what's going on underneath them and practice new psychological skills on them, so the flow is conversational and focused on your goals at the same time. In person in Los Gatos, or by video anywhere in California.

What the call covers

Why you're reaching out now. What it would look like if this went well. Whether to start with therapy or assessment. Fees and insurance. Anything you want to ask about how I work. And a clear sense of fit: it's just as important you feel like I can help you.

Fees

$330 per session.
Private pay.

I'll give you a superbill (a receipt) to send to your insurance; many plans reimburse part of it. Assessment is quoted after the call, once I've prepared a plan for you.

When it isn't a good fit

  • Urgent Needs: I work with a maximum of fifteen clients at a time, and keep a waitlist for non-urgent needs.
  • Current crisis: or the transition out of hospital or intensive outpatient care, isn't a good fit for the limited extra support I can offer. In a crisis, call or text 988.
  • Forensic, custody or court-ordered evaluations.
  • Anyone under 18 for therapy. Assessment starts at age 6.
  • Couples counseling: I only work with Individuals (relationship concerns are welcome of course).

Aaron Israel Rosales, PhD

Licensed Clinical Psychologist, California PSY33252. I know what it's like to be good at getting through, and then to reach a season where getting through isn't enough anymore. I don't think there's a single fix for that. I do think the hard seasons are where people find out what really matters to them. I've found a few key skills and perspectives that can help get you unstuck and access new vitality.

The existential questions about meaning and purpose matter deeply to me, and I draw on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Liberation Psychology in our work together. I also co-founded Brio, an organization that supports mental health in and through teachers, so children can build lives of agency, joy and purpose even in tough circumstances.
